I was looking on Radio 4, at the moment they have their film season featuring various programs related to cinema and film. I found this rather interesting from their archive they have interviews with stars of the Golden Age of America such as Bing Crosby and Katharine Hepburn

The Vasa Museum in Stockholm, displays the war ship Vasa that was sunk in 1628 in August in Stockholm harbour. The website is fantasitc as it shows how a ship is conserved and now is a major tourist attaction - it attracted 1,154615 vistors in 2009.  Vasa returned to the surface in 1961.

"For nearly half a century the ship has been slowly, deliberately and painstakingly restored to a state approaching its original glory. The three masts on the roof outside the specially built museum show the height of the ship's original masts". (http://beta.stockholmtown.com)

Colonial Williamsburg is a brilliant historic attraction where history comes alive! Situated in Virginia, It is often referred to ‘America’s Historic triangle’ which marks key events in the story of colonial America  “from the first lasting English settlement to the final battle that secured liberty and independence for the citizens of the new nation”. Apparently it covers 301 acres - such an enormous historic site and when  I visited it in 2007 during the 400th anniversary of the founding of the nearby Jamestown Settlement, it was extremely crowded and many Americans were feeling rather patriotic.

Check out the link Colonial Williamsburg - www.hitory.org/media/viedoplayer/ (there are range of viedos to choose from such as Tom Hanks on Colonial Williamsburg)

An interesting link about Americans funding heritage in the UK (great in the economic climate!). The link looks at Westminter Abbey and how it tackles conservation.
